This is not a fancy faux-Mexican place with upscale decor and Americanized food. This is tucked in a corner of an ethnic grocery store, but don't let that dissuade you. The food is authentic and delicious, and not expensive. The drinks (non alcoholic) are served in plastic pitchers (sans glasses...just drop your straw in the pitcher and drink up!). I had the chorizo tacos (DELICIOUS) and a wonderful tamarind drink. Recommend!
In short, this place knowingly sells perishable food that perished months ago.
I decided not to purchase tacos.
The food is pretty good, but the service is bad. I've been three times, and each time we've had to wait a decent amount of time to be acknowledged, and never have received refills or anything like that. The saving grace is the food, which is pretty good. The portions are large, and everything is delicious. I just wish they'd improve their service or knock the price down a bit to compensate for the bad service.
I was looking for good tortillas and tostada shells and to try their food. The grocery shelves were half empty, and most of what was there was expired. Of the products that showed expiration dates, I only found one that had not yet expired (but was going to in 3 days); the rest said best by early September, and I was there on Halloween (6 weeks at least since they looked at their inventory). More than one bag of tortillas had bugs crawling around inside it.
It was low-maintenance, straight to the point, and delicious. Also extremely affordable for good portion sizes. Will be returning
Some things were out of stock, but they had lots of good dried peppers for us to make chili. And the tortilla chips they have are THE BEST.
