Great historical building. More museum than library now. A great place to spend some time while learning more about Bloomington and it's history. Great for kids as well.
An absolutely amazing experience. Oscars, The Emancipation Proclamation, the Declaration of Independence, the Peter Pan original manuscript, autographs from every single US president, and millions more. A true gem.
The Rare Books collection is generally only available to students and faculty at IU but the Lily Library offers thematic displays several times a year, generally two at once. Note that you'll need to check on their hours of operation but it is not the same as the other two nearby museums on campus. I've found the staff to be very helpful whenever I've gone to do research or to see a particular display.
Where else can you see such historical documents, a printing press, and so much more? Very few places allow you the privilege of sight of the treasures this place beholds.
A little gem at IU! They house a lot of really awesome, rare items. If you want to look at any books, you will have to wear white gloves (which they provide) and even put the book on this little book holder thing so the spine isn't damaged by opening it too far.... and you cannot check any materials out, though you are welcome to look at them there in the library.
