It was then that I realized that it was because my children's family were fixing up the church and telling the church (along with their Youth Director Carrie Thompson) that I was a "pedophile," "child molester" and "gay." Yet, if you are gay and go there (or if you give a lot of money to the church), why then -you DO have the right to family, to be a dad or know who my children are.

This was done to me at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Bloomimgton as well and I came here to try to bring healing to my family over their homophobia issues. Coming here just made it worse.

My husband and I attended several times over the past year-- a variety of liturgies- each was welcoming We come from diverse traditions and found both priests sermons thought provoking.

During the peace exchange during a Wednesday service (the last service I attended) Charlie told Henry that "I think he may be gay." I had left two messages for Charlie in the past, but he never returned them. This time, I left it for his secretary to tell him to call me. That time he left a message to call him back, without so much as even hinting anything had happened. I never called back, but I did attend that one membership class.

When I spoke with Charlie about my situation and my family at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, he played dumb as though he knew nothing. Yet, when I discovered he was gay, my children's mother was sitting in the office laughing it up with the office staff. I was made to sit outside the office because she was sitting in there talking. When my children's family helped to fix up the church, they counted as family. Without love and family, where is your church and Christian belief? And is it then a mere corporate image being maintained instead of the love of Jesus or God?

When one of the new members asked me if I had children, I explained that I did, but that the mothers never told me that they were pregnant or ever gave birth to my children and how I had to try to figure it all out my looks, behavior and what my children said in public places. I then overheard a woman in the kitchen react to that and say, "Something is not right about that." I heard the woman in the kitchen remark, "I thought he couldn't be a father because he had sex with them." Then another woman replied, "They just say that to keep the children." And that was the truth about it all. I was used to make children for a woman who pretended to love me and be looking for a husband through Matchmaker Dating Service back in 1996. Later I found out through the grapevine that "she wanted my children, not me."

When I explained to Charlie that the man with his mother in a wheelchair, was telling the other members during the peace exchange, "That I was a pedophile and gay." He even told a small daughter of mine (who I did not know was my daughter at the time) to "Stay away from that man. Nothing was done.

The church that advertises as being a church that "supports family;" where is the love and family?

When I was in the new member class at Trinity, we were given the tour. In the basement we were introduced to all the money they used to fix up the church. We were informed of a recent effort and money raised to fix the church as well. I recalled that day my children's grandfather got out of his pearl-white Cadillac Escalade on Kirkwood in front of Trinity church, right after my last visit with Charlie. My father-in-law walked around me and without a single hello, pretended to be busy inspecting the fenced-in side yard. He asked the homeless to watch his car when he saw me, worried about scratches on his expensive SUV. Then he entered Trinity Church. During the tour of the church for membership class, I said to Charlie, "Oh, I that's why that guy was inspecting your church." So long as I played the good-ol' dumb-boy routine I was receiving, everyone was happy. When we got to the worship area, we were told that the pews were being redone along with the floor and walls. The youth minister, Russ, said that the old stain on the floor and pews "was from dirt." He also told us that the water coming into the basement and around electrical cables was "The Jordan River that passed through the church." Russ works with Carrie Thompson who is the youth director.
