I have never had a bad experience at this place! I absolutely love every food I've tried on their menu and they continually impress me with their mixed drinks and draft beer selection. The staff is always so nice (even during their busiest times) and I've always had a great experience. Their outdoor patio seating is a great atmosphere as well during the summer and fall months. Last week I came in and had a server named Nick and he was awesome! Very knowledgeable about the menu and draft selection -- as well as being very courteous and polite the entire time (even though I probably asked him a million questions trying to decide on what to get). I have nothing but great things to say about this place! Would recommend 10/10!
Great local microbrewery beers on tap along with excellent food choices. The prices are quite reasonable and the service usually very good. When weather permits, the outside patio is a real treat. Nice mix of students, locals, and visitors.
3. Finally, this week I had clients in town and chose this facility as the local choice. I checked the website and store hours and walked in at 8:50 pm. The posted hours on the building and website both stated 10 pm. There were still 10-15 customers seated and we were a party of five. After waiting a few minutes to be greeted we were informed that they were closed for the night because they were not busy.
Big Woods is definitely one of my favorite places to eat and grab a locally-brewed beer in Bloomington!
2. On a separate visit a colleague left their eye glasses at the bar and we call and asked them to check. We waited several minutes on hold. We finally decided to walk back to the restaurant. Eventually, they came back and said they looked all over the place and couldn't find them at the bar, as we walked into the restaurant. We walked over to the bar and picked the glasses off the bar. They didn't apparently look.
First time at this Big Woods and it did not disappoint. Service was awesome and the staff was very helpful and patient with letting us try new beers. Very cozy atmosphere and wonderful food. I’ll definitely be back!
This place has good food and drinks but it certainly lacks when it comes to good help and consultancy. If you want a consistent experience I would recommend Scotty's Brewhouse or Upland.
I am a fan of all Big Wood locations! Each have a unique vibe that fits the surrounding aesthetic of the area while maintaining the appeal of their own brand. In Bloomington, Big Woods is located just off of Kirkwood, a gateway road to Indiana University with several shops and restaurants. It has a cozy atmosphere that attracts many Bloomington locals, students, and their families.
1. Sitting at the bar for a late lunch. I was only drinking soda but I asked several times for a refill.
I had this rated as a 5 star this summer. However, after the last 3 visits of poor service I'm unsure I'll return.
