I agree with a lot of the previous post. My wife called during his business hours and he asked if she couldn't tell that it was cold out, as he is a very rude man when he wants to be. He come outside our even unlock his door. When I called he acted totally different and his tone was kind. He talked to my wife over the speaker phone as if she were broke and even crazy for wanting to look at a car at 5:30 on a Monday. Women beware, He talked to my wife like she was dirt and he only deals in passed over junk.
Karl is selling a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback for $2,400 over the Kelley Blue Book price for a car in that condition, and he turned nasty when I asked whether he'd negotiate. He said that once someone has a Subaru, they tend to hang onto it (have heard that line before), so apparently he thinks there are enough people who want a Subaru badly enough that he'll get by with blatantly overcharging. He's a car dealer stereotype, except he's rude instead of unctuous. NOT recommended.
Stopped to look at one of his vehicles for my girlfriend. His office door was locked so she knocked after several minutes he came out acting like he was doing her a favor. She asked if his H2 was still for sale and if so could we test drive it. He told her that unless she was going to buy it she couldn't test drive the vehicle, but that it had been gone through and all parts were new. He then said that he would only take cash. Did I mention the vehicle has over 180,000 miles. I live in Ellettsville and like to keep my $ in the community. Needless to say that this guy will never receive any of my or my friends business.
Stopped by today and there was a sign on the door saying "Will be back soon" so I peeked into the vehicle I was interested in and left. I called the number listed in the yellow pages which was a fax number, so I looked up the dealership online and found a cell phone number. So I called the cell phone and no answer, left a message but no response. So I picked my kids up and went back and he was outside. I asked about the vehicle and if he knew any history on it and was just told "no I would have to get the Carfax" so I asked to at least just see inside the vehicle. He said he would open it up and walked off, then he came out of the building to help a lady and kid inside (I'm assuming his wife/kid), and went back inside the building, he came back out and got something else from the car, and then went back inside and shut the door! I just left. Horrible customer service, which is sad because I VERY interested in this vehicle and was ready to pay cash.
I recently purchased a very solid car from Karl's Automotive at a fair price. Despite being pleased with my purchase, Karl was rude, short, off putting, and totally unprofessional. If I hadn't gone to a get a second opinion on the vehicle I never would have purchased with him. I didn't trust him and his demeanor indicated no reason for doing so. To his credit the car is solid and price was fair. That said I personally would not doing business with this man.
