In my experience, Alvin is hostile, reactionary, and unprofessional in his conduct. As a young professional, who has dealt with myriad types of people from many different backgrounds, I feel that it is my onus to censure Alvin's overtly reactionary/hidebound ideologies that have breached wrongfully into the realm of psychiatric diagnoses (at least for me). After being assigned to Alvin, I admit that I feel targeted and invalidated, which seem to contradict in every way the desired outcomes of any ethical mental health professional. An anecdote that I am not afraid to share: I was admitted to a stress unit that was being overseen by Alvin at the time, and the reasoning behind my stay stems from something entirely independent of my identification as a member of LGBTQ. As a passing and assimilated transsexual girl, it is obvious to those who know of my background that I live in every way as a woman, just as half of society does. Regardless, Alvin consciously targeted my gender identity by calling me "sir" and "man" throughout the stay despite my obvious passability as a woman. Moreover -- keeping in mind that my stay was owing to something independent of my identity -- Alvin targeted it in his diagnosis and discharge instructions, sending me to a third-party therapist to ensure that "transgendering" is even "right" for me. He made snide comments as well, such as that I am clearly facing trouble with my "transgendering", whenever this simply is not the case. Discharge instructions pertaining to the actual reason that I spent two nights in the stress unit were never supplied, and I suffered for this later. If IU Health is to stand for inclusiveness, professionalism, and respect of citizens from all backgrounds, I must question why this shyster has even been hired. -ADB
